Curriculum Information
SCIENCE AT KEY STAGE 3
The specific aims of the science curriculum are to provide students with opportunities to:
- Develop a variety of skills , which help to pre pare them for real life.
- Contribute to an understanding of the world around us.
- Live in a technological society.
- Give individuals the knowledge to make informed decisions in future.
- Enter employment in science or continue with further education.
- Encourage questioning skills.
- Develop experimental and investigative abilities.
- All students are entitled to the above.
The programme aims to:
- Provide students with a challenging series of experiences in science while satisfying the requirements of the National Curriculum in its coverage of the programmes of study and attainment targets for key stage 3 (year 7,8 and 9).
- Allow the teacher to establish the ideas each student brings to a subject before developing these through investigation towards a scientific understanding.

We aim to increase the level of attainment of each pupil over the duration of the KS3 course and continue to build on these attainment through KS4 and beyond.
SCIENCE AT KEY STAGE 4
Course Content
This syllabus consists of twelve separate modules which are taught and tested throughout the year.
These modules are as follows:
Year 1- The human body-action and control
- Inheritance and survival
- Chemical patterns
- Chemistry in action
- Energy and electricity
- Waves, atoms and space
Year 2 - Food production and the environment
- Health and exercise
- Chemicals and earth
- Understanding chemical reactions
- Movement and charge
- Energy, force and communication
Assessment is as follows;
