Curriculum Information

MATHEMATICS AT KEY STAGE 3

Our fundamental aim is to make Mathematics interesting and fun! Students are placed in 3 differentiated Mathematics sets and are taught for four 45 minute lessons each week. Each lesson consists of 3 parts, the introduction, main part and plenary session, which follows the National Numeracy Strategy model. Time is given for oral, mental, written and practical applications of Mathematics in a wide range of contexts. Wherever possible we relate the concept to Mathematics in the real world.

Resources

We have recently purchased a range of resources from the Key Maths scheme. Each student will be given a textbook appropriate to their level of ability as well as additional materials including Information and Communication Technology CD-ROMs, homework sheets and extension materials on using and applying Mathematics. Students will be able to log on to the Internet to access additional support materials.

Equipment

Students will be expected to bring the following equipment to every Mathematics lesson:

  • Blue or black pen
  • 2H Pencil
  • 15 cm ruler
  • 30 cm ruler
