Sponsors Day 2008
Guru Nanak Sikh School has been granted the status of a Business Enterprise School. Mr Sandhu Head of Guru Nanak Sikh School announced that this would give an excellent opportunity for the pupils of Guru Nanak to develop their skills in the world of commerce and business.
To share in this success the school was launched through the hosting of the Business Enterprise Sponsors day. Here number of sponsors from the business community as well as the supporters of the school got together to celebrate this achievement.
Dominic Grieve MP a guest at the event mentioned the importance of faith based education and its successes in delivering high quality education. Chris Spencer, Director of Education congratulated both schools for their outstanding performance and achievement. Similarly John McDonnell MP praised the work of Guru Nanak School and was proud to share in its success.
Number of guests from the business world was also present which included, ICICI bank, Panjab Bank, Canon, Lloyds TSB Bank, British Airports Authority as well as representatives from the local business community and local authority. The Indian High Commission (London) was also in attendance at the event, Minister Madhavan its representative confirmed, the commission would continue to support the work of Guru Nanak Sikh Schools and congratulated Sant Baba Amar Singh Ji for making the school an outstanding success.
A major announcement was also made in relation to the work the school is doing to encourage more involvement of ethnic minorities into sport. It was announced that the school has entered into a partnership with Liverpool Football Club to provide intensive coaching to children between the ages of eight and sixteen years. This will be taking place over the summer holidays. This is a unique opportunity for the community and the audience applauded the initiative.
A presentation was given on the work the school was doing and involving businesses in its efforts to fund raise and ensure its meeting its commitment under its Voluntary Aided Status. This is whereby the school has to raise ten percent of its capital project funds to help complete all the new development works. The presentation demonstrated the close ties it has with the business community in supporting such fund raising events.
In view of this and as in previous years this year the school has organised Prakash 300 celebrations towards the 300th anniversary of the enthronement of Guru Granth Sahib Ji. This is a major festival which has been planned to have an air of spirituality and carnival enjoyment for the family. The festival is to take place over three days, the first day will see the hosting of an International Conference to help launch Guru Nanak International Development and the following days array of activities such as Akhand Paths, Kirtan, Katha, Theatre and Exhibitions. This event is to take place of 18th, 19th and 20th July 2008 and the entry is free, it is expected that over twenty thousand people will be attending this event.
The day ended with a heart felt thanks from Greg Hall, who thanked members of the business and non business community attending. This included the Gurdwaras, representatives from the Jewish faith and school.
