What is Business & Enterprise?
The Business part of the equation has traditionally been delivered by the Business department. While this will continue to be the case, other departments will be encouraged to seek commercial opportunities where possible. The technology department regularly take this approach in the design, production and sale of products from biscuits to cards. The art department will take a similar approach, producing material to be exhibited in school gallery events and auctions.
It is the Enterprise aspect of the school's specialist status that will bring benefits to the wider school community. The vision is best summed up as 'providing opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom that equip students with skills for the workplace. Such opportunities include increased use of outside speakers and agencies to deliver aspects of the curriculum, student presentation in class, outside visits and independent learning.
Being enterprising is not something new to the school, before the appointment as a Specialist School many links with other schools, the wider community and over 60 local businesses has existed for some time. With the new status, this can be taken further. Short courses and skills training for young offenders and 'clait' ICT courses for anyone looking to improve upon their ICT skill are a few examples.
