The Guru Nanak Ski trip - February 2009

On the 15^th February 2009, a group of 43 students and staff left Gatwick Airport and flew to Geneva Airport in Switzerland for the start of the school’s fifth and largest ski trip. A coach then took us through the French Alps to our resort on the French Italian border – Claviere.

We arrived at the Hotel for lunch giving us plenty of time to sort out the rooming and complete the ski fitting in the afternoon. The following day a number of students who had skied before were soon off exploring the 300km of piste while the beginners started the day on the nursery slopes.

However by the second day all the students had made sufficient improvement to take on some of the longer and more challenging runs. As each day passed the students continued to make excellent progress and were soon skiing a few miles away from the resort.

It was impressive to see how all the students were determined to master this sport and every student completed many of the Red runs available.

The evenings were occupied with ice Skating, Quizzes, Games and a visit to an Italian pizza Restaurant.

At the end of the week all the students took on a very adventurous ski to Montgenevre in France and back again. The students had to ski across the boarder into France where they had lunch and after some more skiing on unexplored routes the group finally returned to Italy to hand in their skis and boots for the final time.

I would like to thank all the staff for their hard work and the students for their excellent behaviour and approach to the whole week.
