Wales trip

On the 14th of May 2007, 42 year 8 students and 4 staff boarded the bus heading towards the mountains of North Wales. Far from the bright lights of London, the comforts of home cooking and mobile phone reception, we reached the Cwm Pennant Mountain Centre which became our home for the next 5 days.

After a warm welcome from the center's staff we settled into our dorms and prepared for the week's activities which faced us. We were broken in gently with an evenings beach walk along Cardigan Bay before being split up into smaller groups, allowing students the chance to work with and get to know others pupils in the year group better.

Wales TripThe next morning activities stepped up a gear with different groups rotating throughout the week. Activities involved a whole new and exciting range for most, encouraging all students to partake at a level that was comfortable to them. Canadian canoeing in glaciated lakes gave the groups a chance to coordinate their teamwork as they built rafts and paddled their way across the lakes.

Wales TripPrecision and accuracy was required from the William Tells of the group as pupils tried their luck at hitting the bull's eye in archery. Map reading and orientation skills were quickly learnt as pupils roamed the grounds in one of the many evening activities.

Rock climbing and abseiling were among the favorites for many pupils. They were given the opportunity to scale the local cliff faces and subsequently lower themselves back to the ground. It seemed pupils were inspired by watching the latest Spiderman movie on the bus journey and it soon became obvious that we had a couple of spider men and spider women of our own!

Wales TripThe favorite for the majority of the groups had to be that of gorge walking. A challenging task of navigating your way up a river's path. Great bravery and leadership skills were shown during this activity allowing true personalities to shine. Teams made their way upstream over, around and even under huge boulders as they progressed along the rivers path, or for some individuals in the river's path!

At the end of the week the pupils were presented with well-earned certificates to reflect their achievements. To finish off a great week for all, the pupils entertained the staff with a mini talent show of some of the more entertaining events duiring the week.
