Minet Country Park 2010

The Minet Country Park Event 2010

On Thursday 22nd June 2010, the Year Eights attending the activities week paid a visit to Minet Country Park. As we went round we were given a booklet on all sorts of cross curricular subjects with an emphasis on English. We enjoyed the adventure as we walked around and completed different tasks. Although we had been to the park when in Year Seven, the focal point this time round was the effect of pollution and ideas of conservation. We saw many different animals and birds and even a sky-lark welcomed us to the park. We saw a rabbit burrow but unfortunately no rabbit! One student even said, "On this trip it felt like we were doing detective work, as we had to look at everything around us which we normally take for granted. I enjoyed this trip and it would be lovely to go again." We were lucky that the weather was amazing although some people found it a bit too much but still managed to carry on.

In Geography, led by Miss Woodington, we completed a field sketch of the park; in History, led by Mr.Gillespie, we learnt about the past, present and future of Hayes and with the entire Science Department, assisted by Learning Support, we learnt about the number of plants and animals in a given area. The event was a great success.

The day concluded with the showing of the film "Animal Farm".

We would like to thank Miss Thaddeus and all staff for their co-operation and support in this venture. Hopefully we will be able to do this again next year.
