From September 2006 the Local Authority will co-ordinate all admissions to primary school. Parents complete a form, obtainable from the school office, writing schools in the order that they would most like their child to attend. The Governors of Guru Nanak Sikh VA Primary School will consider applications in accordance with the admissions criteria of the school. Subject to available places, governors admit pupils matched against the criteria below:
- Children living with parents/legal guardians/carers, who demonstrate a
deep commitment to the Sikh faith. Evidence of this will be required through
the completion of a self-evaluation religious questionnaire and a statement
from the Priest of the Gurdwara.
- Children living with parents/legal guardians/carers, at least one of whom
attends worship at least three times per month in a Gurdwara, and has done
so at least for three years.
- Children living with parents/legal guardians/carers, at least one of whom
attends worship monthly in the tradition of any faith other than Sikh. The
frequency of the worship must be certified by the appropriate authorities.
This certification will be used to establish priority within this criterion.
- Children of families who live in the vicinity of the school.
Within each category, priority will be given to children in the following order:
- Children in Public Care/Looked After.
- Children with well-documented acute medical needs whom the governors
believe would benefit from a place at the school.
- Children with brothers or sisters in the school who were admitted
prior to Year 6. They should have a brother or sister attending the school
at the time of the admission
- Distance from home.
Note. Distance is measured by the LA in a straight line from the school office to the child’s permanent home.
All places are offered directly from the London Borough of Hillingdon via the Admissions Team in the Civic Centre, Uxbridge. In September 2006, there were 102 applications from parents/carers for 60 places. 30 pupils were admitted under religious faith criteria, 11 pupils were admitted under sibling criteria, 19 children were admitted under distance criteria. Parents who are refused a school place have the right to appeal to an independent panel.
The governing body of Guru Nanak Sikh Primary School is responsible for nursery admissions. Please note that a place in a nursery class does not guarantee admission to the reception class.
The school will admit 30 pupils to the Nursery in the morning session and a further 30 pupils into the Nursery for the afternoon session.
